Sophia Thakur’s poetry book “Somebody Give This Heart a Pen” hasn’t even been released in the U.S. yet and it’s already reached No. 1 on bestselling book charts.

Sophia’s “Somebody Give This Heart a Pen” is a bestselling new release in the Teen & Young Adult Dating section on the Amazon Best Sellers list. It isn’t even scheduled to be released in the U.S. until September.

Sophia, a U.K. native known for her performance poetry that tackles coming-of-age issues, identity and social injustice, shared the exciting news about her presales on Instagram after she spoke at the virtual American Library Association conference. For Sophia the book sales are a reminder of God’s timing.

“…The world can be so much bigger than our worries,” she wrote on Instagram. “I hope that whoever’s palms this book lands in overseas can find a mirror, a new perspective and a new way of empathising with the world around them. God knows we need that right now.”

For years Sophia Thakur has been pouring her heart into her pen as a spoken word artist.

According to the Amazon description of her debut poetry book, “the poems draw on the author’s experience as a young mixed-race woman trying to make sense of a lonely and complicated world. With a strong narrative voice and emotional empathy, this is poetry that will resonate with all young people, whatever their background and whatever their dreams.”
