For so many parents, autism is a mental health diagnosis they hope to avoid. For one mom of an autistic boy, it’s a superpower.

Autism is a developmental disorder that can reduce people’s ability to interact and communicate. Camille Joy, an autism advocate who also helps people launch and monetize their podcasts, is changing the narrative about autism.

While she took to Instagram to educate people about Autism, she also managed to inspire.

“𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐌 is a diagnosis that is terrifying to any parent when first received. Unfortunately, you won’t know what to expect or where your child will fall on the spectrum,” Camille wrote. “Heck we don’t even know what ‘the spectrum’ is.”

Camille was honest about some of the negative emotions that parents may be experiencing along with their child’s autism diagnosis like fear, shame, and even guilt. Still, she made it clear that they could also grow to become a “super advocate.”

“𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 is nothing to be sad about. It’s actually a badge of honor,” she wrote. “Your kid can see things that we can’t. They can hear what we can’t. They can figure out things we’d never be able to!”

If you or someone you know needs some inspiration while dealing with autism spectrum disorder, check out Camille’s post below:
