The BBQs are in full swing and we’re trying to enjoy outside for as long as possible before that girl Delta and the cold weather come in to try to stop the party.
If you’re anything like us and need a playlist to get you through the last leg of summer, then you already know that Reach Records’ fourth annual summer playlist is hitting. This year, rap mogul and Reach Records president Lecrae let us know the mission behind the music.
It’s deeper than rap.
“What Reach Records is aiming to do with the Summer ’21 Playlist, is take music that typically gets overlooked from marginalized ethnic communities so the Hispanic Community, the Black community, the African community,” Lecrae said in a statement shared with Five:22 Culture. “By taking that music and elevating it, we are allowing God to penetrate different spaces and places.”
This year’s Summer ‘21 Playlist has 16 new tracks from Reach’s all-star lineup of rappers Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii, Wande, Hulvey with some special friends like Jidenna, Limoblaze, BigBreeze, Indie Tribe, and Porsha Love.
Here are some of our favorite moments from the 16-track ultimate summer playlist:
The BIG ENERGY Hip Hop
As soon as you click play, Wande and Porsha Love come out of the gate swinging with their high-energy summer anthem “Don’t Worry About It.”
Wande gives us something else to turn up to on her 116 collabs with fellow spitters Jaye Newton and Not Klyde, “Moshpit.”
We know you’re not going to want to stop bopping your head when the “Team” track by indie tribe feat. nobigdyl., Jon Keith, Mogli the Iceburg, DJ Mykael V, 116 comes on. Check out the video below to see what we mean:
The 116 Veterans Show Us How It’s Done
Ok, our 116 veterans haven’t lost a step and we’re here for it! Lecrae, Tedashii, and Trip Lee are proving they’re not just sitting on the bench for this game. They’re still anchoring the team playing point, shooter and center. While they held their own on every verse they contributed to the playlist, it’s their solo tracks that stand out the most.
How is it possible that Lecrae still has flows he hasn’t shown us? That’s what’s happening on the his solo track “Holupwait” where he brings bars, an infectious beat, and that big faith talk.
One of our favorite tracks on this entire playlist comes from Trip Lee with his solo track “You Got It.” The Dallas, Texas native never misses when he takes a shot on a track. Trip Lee rides on the beat in such a smooth way that makes us want to take a road trip with the windows down riding with this song on repeat.
Tedashii has a way of just making us feel good with his music and his solo song “Lights In The City” does just that. If you’re having a bad day or just want to set the mood for a good one, this is what you want to press play on.
The Global Love Is Real
If you’re tapped in to Five:22 Culture, then you know how important it is for us to recognize all fo the amazing global artists making their mark on the Kingdom. We’re so excited that Reach Records is doing the same thing by giving a platform to some talented African artists like one of our favorites, Nigerian afrobeats trailblazer Limoblaze who anchors the feel-good track “Everyday” with his signature sound. He’s joined by Lecrae and JIDENNA for that type of sound that you need this summer.
Yes, that Jidenna. We see you bruh.
In “Run It Up,” music artist IMRSQD hailing from Namibia gave us the swagger, flow, bars, and beat that belongs on a movie score. There’s nothing like “Run It Up” out here, but we need more of it!
We’re so excited about the Latin love that Reach Records ended this playlist with in the song “La Fiesta Remix” featuring Latino heavy hitters Alex Zurdo, Redimi2 and Funky who even had Lecrae spittin in Spanish! If you need something to dance to, press play on this one.
There are so many amazing artists on this Reach Records project it’s hard to pick just a few songs out. Check it out for yourself and let us know your favorites.
